WAR AGAINST SUICIDE

by G T Adejumo
According to the World Health Organization (WHO):
The global suicide rate is 16 per 100,000 population. On average, one person dies by suicide every 40 seconds somewhere in the world. 1.8% of worldwide deaths are suicides. Global suicide rates have increased 60% in the past 45 years.
Nigeria placed fifth with 15,000 suicide in every 100,000 suicides, and with the current increase in depression rate, we must pray to prevent the number from rising.
Depression is a top risk factor. Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia are also risk factors. The truth is, depression can start as a psychological problem and end being a great spiritual damage. It starts with depression and ends in possession by the spirit of suicide. At this point, no counsel or advice can help until the foul spirit has been overthrown from such a life.
Generally, committing suicide is about three times more common in men than in women with poisoning, hanging and firearms being the most common methods. Having considered these natural facts and factors, it is certain that there are factors beyond the natural that can be responsible. By the grace of God, I have ministered to rescue at least 9 persons who were on the verge of taking their own lives. Today, things have turned around for them and they are happy people with assuring hope of fulfilling their destinies.
Whatever the cause of any suicide might be, it is connected to death. Death is completely spiritual and taking one’s life is more spiritual.
Testimonies
Consider this testimony, a woman brought her husband who had made several failed suicide attempts to a man of God. He was led in prayers to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His great grandfather, grandfather and father had all died of suicide. Now, here’s the man’s testimony: “While you were praying for me, I saw the man you called Jesus Christ come here, opened my skull and removed a rope and a knife, then closed it back”.
At this point, the man who was initially looking depressed and hopeless was taken over by unexplainable joy.
In 2016, a lady called me to hear my voice finally, to bid me goodbye before committing suicide having been depressed for too long over relationship issues. I tried all I could to minister Christ’s hope to her using whatsapp chat but the more I preached, the more I realized that she had made up her mind. Then, it was midnight and I knew I had little time to change her mind. When every effort failed, I received a counsel from the Lord to stop chatting and break the grip of the suicide spirit over her. After doing that, I returned to chatting with her, and this time, she could listen to me as her pastor and immediately changed her mind. Today, she is happily married and lives in the USA.
One of the biggest instrument the devil is using to lure people into suicide is ‘relationship’. I remember I was called to minister to another lady who was caught contemplating suicide because her parents called to disagree with her plan to marry her boyfriend.
Another man I met was jilted by her lover, and since the lady was taken by a minister in his church, he vowed never to attend any church. He was accosted near a river where he had resolved to drown himself. Today, he’s married and blessed with six children, a twin inclusive.
I must state here that, suicide has a spirit that prevents it’s potential victims from being able to see any light of hope ahead of them.
Consider These :
Two men in the US decided their own destinies after a common mishap. One went and drowned himself but the other got inspired by his predicament to write a song that later won him millions of dollars.
What I have personally noticed in ministry is that most of those that God delivered from suicide through us had major breakthroughs soon after they changed their minds. This means that the devil wanted to truncate their lives before their blessings arrived.
